Lizzo made her stadium debut on Wednesday (May 21) during the first Los Angeles stop of the Grand National Tour alongside SZA.
The close friends performed SZA’s remix of Lizzo’s hit record, “Special,” from her 2022 LP of the same name. “I brought my best friend for energy,” said the SOS star before Lizzo appeared.
“BABYS FIRST STADIUM PERFORMANCE — I love u @sza u r THEE DIVA!,” exclaimed the “About Damn Time” singer in the caption of a snippet of their performance. It was clear this live rendition was joyous, as the women fed off each other’s vibrant energy.
“This is my first stadium, b***h,” Lizzo said excitedly towards the end of the video (above) as she twerked and ran off stage.
The “Special (Remix)” was first teased during the last stop of Lizzo’s tour in celebration of the album. When gushing about the collaboration, Lizzo dubbed it, “SIZZO SUPREMACY” as SZA added, “No one like you on this earth and I’m so honored to call you my friend and SISTER love you more and more each day !!!! we don’t deserve u.”
Since the Grand National Tour began, SZA and Kendrick Lamar have welcomed other special guests including Playboi Carti, Baby Keem, and Kaytranada. Meanwhile, their chart-dominating duet, “luther,” has continued to make strides— hitting No. 1 for the 13th week.
Billboard reported that the song is now one of 15 to have topped the Billboard Hot 100 for this long. The Karena Evans-directed visual took the record to another level, as she beautifully displayed the layered love between SZA, K. Dot, and their respective love interests and giving proper homage to Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s “If This World Were Mine,” — which “luther” samples.
