In a candid response, the lyrical prodigy credited the iconic event for jump-starting his journey in the music industry. “Man, it has done a lot,” A-Reece shared. “First of all, it introduced me to the game. I remember 2014—shout out to Thuli from Lawk Entertainment, Lawk Communications, that’s family out there. She put me on.”

Recounting his humble beginnings, A-Reece painted a vivid picture of performing for a small crowd of seven people during his first Maftown Heights experience. Despite the modest turnout, the moment remains etched in his memory for its sentimental value. “It introduced me to the game. I got to meet Khuli Chana, I got to meet AKA. Rest in peace to the GOAT,” he added with heartfelt reverence for the late AKA, whose influence on the genre continues to be celebrated.

Beyond personal milestones, A-Reece emphasized the ongoing support Maftown Heights has shown him throughout his career. The festival, known for spotlighting Motswako artists and fostering unity in the hip-hop community, has played a pivotal role in elevating countless artists and connecting them with larger audiences.

For A-Reece, Maftown Heights isn’t just a platform—it’s a cultural institution that has significantly shaped the landscape of South African hip-hop, bridging artists and fans while preserving the genre’s rich heritage.
