Democratic U.S. Rep Stacey Plaskett called out Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for interrupting her during a House committee hearing on Wednesday (June 11).
“Excuse me. Let me get something straight with you first here. I’ve seen you interrupt everyone,” Plaskett said as Bessent tried to cut her off while speaking about Donald Trump‘s negative impact on the stock market.
Plaskett, a non-voting delegate representing the U.S. Virgin Islands, continued, “When you come to someone’s house, you respect their rules, and in this house, we don’t interrupt individuals, and you’re not going to interrupt my time. I’m going to give you time to respond.”
She added, “You may want to jot down some notes about things that you don’t agree with me on, so that you can respond to them at that time. But while I’m speaking as the person holding this time, you will refrain from speaking, sir, until I’m done, and then I will give you time to speak.”
Bessent interjected with a snarky reply: “I look forward to responding. I look forward to the facts.” To which Plaskett stated, “I look forward to your response whether they’re factual or incorrect.”
After a snippet of the exchange hit social media, the backlash began.

One person tweeted, “Do all these tw*ts have their PMS cycle synced? Someone needs to ship a case of Midol to the Capitol this afternoon.”
Plaskett replied, “Excuse you!! This tw*t, c*nt, pum pum whatever you want to call it represents an organ that gives LIFE and is resilient, so thanks for the compliment. I can take one interruption but Bessent was out of control. And…. I know I look good for my age but baby I’m post menopausal and it still works.”
