Bravo Le Roux Opens Up About His Near-Exit From Music After Suffering From Depression. Cape Town rapper Bravo Le Roux recently opened up about a deeply personal chapter in his life during a heartfelt appearance on Okay Swisher’s Swisher Show Podcast, revealing how he came dangerously close to walking away from music for good, just before a pivotal moment that reignited his passion.

Bravo Le Roux Opens Up About His Near-Exit From Music After Suffering From Depression

Sharing what he called a “crazy story,” Bravo recalled a time when he was booked to open for Nasty C’s Ivyson Tour in Cape Town, a moment that should have been a career highlight. But behind the scenes, the rapper was battling with more than just performance nerves.

“At the time, I told myself I’m not doing music anymore. Like I’m done with this thing,” Bravo confessed. “I had just recovered from depression and meningitis — brain TB. It was crazy.”

According to the rapper, the pressure of trying to make it in music while watching his peers graduate and build more conventional lives weighed heavily on him. The emotional toll, compounded by his health struggles and the feeling that he had let his family down, pushed him to the edge.

“I believed not listening to my parents was one of the reasons I was depressed,” he admitted. “I wanted this art thing to work so bad. I was chasing it so hard… and I can see at home that it hurts them. So it just messed with me heavily.”

Bravo went as far as to tell his friends he was quitting music — that he had nothing left to give. But then came a call he hadn’t expected: Nasty C was coming to Cape Town, and the city wanted Bravo on that stage. “I said, ‘I’m just gonna do that and I’m out.’”

What followed was a brief taste of hope — and then a crash. A few weeks after the show, he got word that Nasty C was back in the city, hosting a session at Red Bull Studios, wanting to connect with the artists involved in his tour. Bravo rushed home to charge his phone, frantically trying to get in touch with Nasty C’s team — but nobody answered.

“By the end of the night, I was like, ‘Yo, I’ve burnt all the bridges, and this is the only thing I have — so I might just as well make it work.’”

Though he still hasn’t met Nasty C in person, Bravo now views that chaotic chapter as a blessing in disguise — a test that pulled him back from the edge and realigned him with his purpose. “I still haven’t met Nasty C yet,” he said with a laugh. “But I’m winning, at least.”
