Cardi B has explained her hesitation in speaking out about the Donald Trump administration amid continued protests in Los Angeles following the ICE raids and Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and Marines.
During a recent X Spaces, the Invasion Of Privacy emcee— who’s previously endorsed Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders— admitted to seeing chatter across social media about Trump’s actions and shared that her personal hesitance came from knowing that Trump does “not give one f**k about me,” and also acknowledging the fear of retaliation.
“Personally, the reason why I haven’t really said anything is because I could say something every single day about it and guess what? Nothing is going to happen,” she stated, according to Complex. “Trump do not give one f**k about me or what I gotta say. I personally believe that he doesn’t like me. So if somebody don’t like you, and they say something or they do something, they’ll be like, ‘Oh word? Now I’m gonna show you.’”
Cardi reminded listeners about her past thoughts on what she believed a Trump presidency would mean for immigration. “He always gives dictatorship vibe,” she declared on Spaces. “I tried to warn people that this was going to happen. I don’t know nobody anymore in the White House. I don’t know a representative. I don’t know nobody in there. And if I talk about it every single day, he is not going to care. Actually, I feel like if I talk about it every single day, he’s going to deport more people on purpose to show you […] Like, ‘B***h, I run this country.’”
Despite her feeling that there is “no point or purpose” in speaking out against Trump, Cardi did address him directly, urging him to “have some compassion” with his administration’s aggression. She spoke on the importance of those he’s targeting, noting they’re “working their a** off and providing for this country.”
The Bronx native explained, “So they actually have helped America a lot. Plenty! We wouldn’t like for an American to get snatched up in Russia and get f**king treated practically like dog s**t. And we’re treating these people like they’re dog s**t, like not even humans.”
She concluded her chat by telling listeners that Trump’s “not going to stop, he’s gonna get worse”—and reflected on how the “bad karma” of those in charge could fire back on the country as a whole.
“God will f**king have us pay,” she declared.
California governor Gavin Newsom is already planning to pursue legal action against Trump’s military deployment. Newsom explained on X on Monday (June 9), “U.S. Marines serve a valuable purpose for this country— defending democracy. They are not political pawns. The Secretary of Defense is illegally deploying them onto American streets so Trump can have a talking point at his parade this weekend. It’s a blatant abuse of power. We will sue to stop this. The Courts and Congress must act. Checks and balances are crumbling. This is a red line — and they’re crossing it. WAKE UP!”
