Fetty Wap has set the record straight regarding rumors of him being released early from prison.

On Tuesday (Feb. 4), the New Jersey rapper—who was sentenced to six years behind bars in May 2023 for drug trafficking—reposted his sister, Divinity Maxwell’s, post stating that “He’s not out yet.”

“@fettywap1738 free you brother I love you!” she added.

According to the Bureau of Prisons, Fetty Wap is not expected to be released until March 13, 2027. His conviction stems from a guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. At the time, prosecutors pushed for a harsher sentence, arguing that the rapper had “glamorized the drug trade” despite having a chart-topping music career.

His legal troubles began in October 2021 when he was arrested at New York’s Citi Field just before he was set to perform at Rolling Loud. Upon being placed in cuffs, the FBI discovered 16 kilograms of cocaine, two kilograms of heroin, fentanyl pills, an arsenal of firearms including multiple pistols, a rifle, and $1,500,000 in cash.

Back in November 2023, Fetty Wap told XXL, “Some of the things I think about really is being home. I take accountability for everything I did. I don’t really be blaming nobody for nothing. It ain’t nobody else fault that I’m here.”

He also acknowledged that surrounding himself with the wrong people contributed to his downfall.

“However it may have went down, whatever, like with the people and all that, basically, just not standing tall. But at the end of the day, that’s my fault for involving myself around people like that,” he explained. “And putting [my] trust in the people that’s not really real, that’s not really who they say they is. So, my whole thing is like, man, just stop f**kin’ with ni**as, man. That’s how I feel.”

Wap also expressed regret for not taking his career more seriously, as he was once at the top of his game. “I just reflect on some of the sh*t I did in the last few years, how I feel like I coulda took music a lot more serious than I did,” he said. “And like just keep it that route, instead of this route. I’m just grateful that I’m still here; I’m still breathing. I’m able to see some light at the end of the tunnel.”

Following the 33-year-old’s booking, he issued a statement to his fans, letting them know he was in a positive mental space and thanked them for “sending all the reels and the stories and everything and all the tags, photos and everything like that.”

He added, “You know, I got my head up always. Like never bent, never fold. I love y’all, thank y’all for everything.”
