Universal Music Group has been in the spotlight for the last few months due to Drake’s defamation lawsuit, but another artist is now suing the powerhouse label. Fred Durst and his legendary band Limp Bizkit are pursuing litigation against UMG for unpaid royalties.

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based nu metal band claims that they are owed a large sum of money due to the fact they have over three billion streams in the last two years alone. TMZ obtained paperwork outlining their accusation that UMG has created a royalty software system that intentionally withholds information related to royalties so that artists don’t know they are being shafted.

Durst and his crew also claimed that the deals they signed in the 1990s, when they first broke out as artists, were deliberately crafted to limit how much money they would make from their music. Durst specifically states that he signed 50/50 profit splits with record executives on additional music ventures, but has never been given what he is owed, per the terms of the agreements.

It doesn’t stop there, either. Fred Durst has also accused Universal Music Group of not paying him all of the 10% of profits he was promised for discovering the band Staind and signing them to a subsidiary under UMG. According to Durst, those payments stopped in 2012.

Durst and Limp Bizkit could be owed up to $200 million, per the court documents, and they hope to be handed that via this lawsuit. Notably, Iggy Azalea recently called out the label for similar reasons. “Universal Music are criminals who actively take advantage of ALL of their artists,” she said on X earlier this month.

Limp Bizkit is known for their major hits “Break Stuff,” “Re-Arranged,” “N 2 Gether Now” featuring Method Man, and “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle).” They have been nominated for three Grammys, won Top Modern Rock Artist at the 2000 Billboard Music Awards, and sold over 40 million records worldwide.
