Veteran rapper and music producer Eldee has shared a fascinating account of his first encounter with Wizkid, highlighting the young artist’s potential for greatness.

During an appearance on the Adesope live podcast, Eldee reminisced about the initial meeting, revealing that he was immediately struck by Wizkid’s talent.

Eldee recalled the moment Wizkid walked into the room, stating that he recognized the young artist’s unique qualities.

He stated, “I saw that WizKid had something as soon as he walked in.”

He also shared his conversations with singer Banky W, who played a crucial role in discovering Wizkid’s talent.”

Eldee acknowledged that his discussions with Banky W may have contributed to the decision to support Wizkid’s career.

Eldee noted that at the time there were many talented young artists, but it was essential to find someone who could be molded and directed.

He remembered introducing Wizkid to various musical influences, including Roc City’s mixed tapes, to help shape his sound.

“I’m not trying to take credit or anything but I feel like part of what I might have said to Banky W was part of what gave them the full confidence to be like ‘you know what, let’s do it!’. I told him ‘This kid has something and we have to figure out a way to make sure that he doesn’t fall into the wrong circles,” Eldee explained.

“There were a lot of kids at the time who had talent and you needed someone you could mould and give directions. I remember one of the things that I brought at the time was that we were listening to a lot of Roc City and they had mixed tapes they had done. So I told Banky that if we wanted the music to go far, our music had to align with that. Some of that is what we used to play to WizKid at the time and asked him to find the middle ground because he couldn’t do all dancehall because he wasn’t a Jamaican.

“When WizKid first played Don’t Dull for us for the first time I was like This is it. The first show he performed at was the Sound City Video Music Awards and that was his first big performance”.
