When it comes to soulful Nigerian music that hits you right in the feels, John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille is that guy. From his unique sound to his quiet charm, fans swear he has no bad songs.
The Mavin Records star recently sat with Saturday Punch and dished on everything music, family, Don Jazzy, and even a 3 a.m. fan invasion.
Johnny revealed he’s always loved storytelling. He grew up on gospel, folk, country, and alternative music, and that blend is what makes his songs stand out. His words:
“I draw inspiration from life, love, faith, and everyday experiences.”

Since joining Mavin, Johnny has learnt that fame doesn’t happen overnight and praised his label boss, Don Jazzy, for giving his artistes the freedom to explore and refine their sound.
“Don Jazzy taught me consistency and patience. You have to build brick by brick.” He says.
Speaking on his most emotional moment, Johnny Drille recalled that while touring in Manchester, a couple approached him backstage, crying.
Their son with autism had been deeply touched by his music. Johnny said, “that moment was so special. It reminded me that music travels far and deep.”
Raised in a strict Christian home, with his dad being a pastor and principal, Church music shaped his early years, and he started singing in church at 11.

On fatherhood, the How Are You? Crooner disclosed:
“Becoming a father changed me. I want to be there for my daughter the same way my dad was for me.”
Unlike many celebs, Johnny likes to keep it low-key and he shared why. He says:
“Some parts of life are sacred. I share what I’m comfortable with, but I keep my family grounded.”
Johnny Drille recalled his craziest fan moment ever, was when a female fan once tried to sneak into his hotel room at 3 a.m.
However, his most cherished memory remains his first live show in 2018, where 3,000 people came out just to see him.
