Martin Lawrence has come to terms with paying for his daughter, Jasmin Lawrence’s, upcoming wedding, where she will get married to fellow comedic actor Eddie Murphy‘s son, Eric Murphy.
During a recent appearance on Sherri, Lawrence revealed that he will be covering the costs for the wedding, an agreement he made with his Life costar due to Murphy already having paid for his children’s’ weddings — on multiple occasions.
After jokingly attempting to avoid footing the bill for Jasmin and Eric’s wedding during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in 2023, Lawrence revealed that he’s now come around to taking on the responsibility.

“Eddie said, ‘Naw, naw,’ Lawrence said while detailing Murphy’s refusal to cover the expenses. “He said I had to pay for the last six weddings. ‘Cause Eddie got a lot of children,” Lawrence said of the Dolemite actor. “So he said, ‘You paying for this one.’ So I don’t have a problem with it.”
Jasmin Lawrence, 29, and Eric Murphy, 35, announced their relationship in 2021, with the two officially getting engaged in November 2024.
With both parents having known the other’s child since their youth, Lawrence says he’s fully comfortable with his daughter’s relationship with Murphy’s son, even comparing his potential in-law’s personality to his father’s.

“He’s so chill, cool–he’s a lot like his father,” Lawrence said of Eric. “Real calm, cool, collected and just a cool young man.”
While Lawrence has accepted taking on the wedding costs, he’s adamant that Murphy be the one to deliver the speech during the customary champagne toast, jokingly admitting that Murphy is the “funnier” comedian of the two and that if tasked with the duty, he would likely cry in embarrassing fashion.
