NLE Choppa is ready to be a movie star. The Memphis-bred rapper attended the premiere of his first feature film, Black Heat, on Tuesday night (March 25) in Hollywood, Calif. The movie, directed by Wes Miller, also stars Jason Mitchell and Tabitha “DreamDoll” Robinson as two parents on a deadly mission to save their teenaged daughter from a doomed future.
“It was real dope,” shared the 22-year-old of his experience to audiences after the premiere. Black Heat was filmed in Orlando over a series of weeks with only nighttime shots at a singular apartment complex.
“I remember when my mother hit me, she was like ‘I know this guy named Wes, I went to school with him…He wants you to have a leading role in this movie,” explained NLE Choppa. “Wes seen my worth when I felt that other people didn’t. I think when I pulled up on set, the energy I brought, everything was [confirmed]. I wasn’t nervous, I was ready for it.”
In the movie, the rapper plays King David, the heir to a criminal throne who commands respect from everyone by any means necessary.
Along with the film, NLE Choppa released the new song “HARD LIFE,” featuring Carey Washington. As the main song for Black Heat, the track serves as a message from Choppa to his kids that underscores the theme of the thrilling movie.
At the premiere, the cast and creators revealed that a prequel, which will feature musician Lil Mama, is already in the works. Black Heat was released in theaters Friday.
