Skylar Diggins has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Daniel Smith. The split is confirmed amid rumors due to the WNBA star’s recent appearances, where she opted to drop the hyphenated “Smith” from her last name.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, the 34-year-old filed for dissolution of marriage in King County Superior Court in Washington, with the date of separation listed as Nov. 1, 2024. The legal documents explained, “This marriage is irretrievably broken,” and detailed that there is no prenuptial agreement. The outlet also reported that spousal support is not needed.
The couple married in Chicago in 2017 and share two children, Rowen Seven Smith, 6, and Ana Lia Irie Smith, 2. Diggins and Smith have agreed that Smith will pay child support by way of daycare expenses, educational expenses, and post-secondary school (college or vocational school) expenses, per PEOPLE.
“Yes. Thank you for the question, too,” relayed the Seattle Storm Guard when asked about the quiet name change earlier this week. “Yes, it does say Skylar Diggins, and I would like to be addressed as that moving forward.”
She continued, “Thank you guys so much, and as always, my focus is on being a great teammate, adding value to this team on and off the floor and in this community, and as always, being a good mom to my two babies. It won’t change for none of y’all anyways, you know what I’m saying? “Some of y’all just call me whatever y’all want to call me anyway,” laughed the Indiana native.
Diggins and the rest of the WNBA are geared up to tip off their preseason games on Friday (May 2) with the first of 15 games. The WNBA’s 29th regular season is slated to begin on Friday, May 16, and conclude on Thursday, Sept. 11, with each team playing a record-high 44 games.
