Snoop Dogg Loses 500K Followers After Trump Crypto Ball Performance

While Snoop Dogg is content in his decision to perform at an event for Pres. Donald Trump‘s Inauguration, over half a million of his social media followers just couldn’t come to terms with it, choosing to unfollow the popular rapper as a result.

The Missionary artist took the biggest hit on Instagram, where he lost 571,800 followers in the days since his performance, The New York Post reports. He also reportedly lost 17,177 followers on X/Twitter. While the numbers are staggering, a dip in followers is not unexpected, as the Long Beach rapper received massive backlash once the public realized he’d be hitting the Crypto Ball stage in celebration of Trump’s return to the White House. Footage of a 2017 Snoop Dogg calling Black entertainers who perform for Trump “Uncle Toms” and “Jiggaboos” also didn’t help. As of publication, Snoop’s Instagram follower count sits at 88.1 million.

Political commentator and occasional The View guest host Ana Navarro compared the rapper to a “trained seal” over his change in tone, stating on the popular daytime series, “The thing that really, I think, was spotlighting Snoop is because of the things that Snoop Dogg said 10 days before the [Trump] inaugural in 2017. And so look, if you opposed and stood up against Trump in 2017, but you were there now, if you spoke up against Trump January 7th, 2021, but you were there now applauding him like a trained seal… Donald Trump has not changed. You’ve changed.”

Snoop and other rappers who performed at the inauguration were also called out by political commentator Keith Boykin, who referred to the performances as a “dishonor to the Black community.”

On the other hand, Snoop, Nelly, Soulja Boy and Rick Ross — all of whom made appearances throughout inauguration weekend — also found defenders in Charlamagne The God and Stephen A. Smith. As for Snoop, he addressed the backlash himself Sunday, Jan 26, sharing via an Instagram video, “For all that hate, I’m going to answer with love. Y’all can’t hate enough on me. I love too much. Get your life right stop worrying about mine. I’m cool, I’m together. Still a Black man, still 100 percent Black.” See Snoop address the criticism below.
