When the Grand National Tour stopped in Arizona on Wednesday (May 27), SZA was doing her usual pre-show ritual of greeting fans outside during her NOT Beauty pop-up.
However, the gathering was cut short after a fan threw a bracelet in her face while she was signing something for another fan. As seen in footage shared on TikTok, the CTRL singer was visibly infuriated. She stormed off and never returned.
“So when are y’all gonna learn to stop throwing things at celebrities? This is not okay and watching this video is actually so upsetting.. She did not deserve that at all,” one person tweeted. In the video, fans were just as annoyed for her, questioning, “Who threw that?”
Other reactions were similar. Someone else tweeted, “Sza is so sweet [broken heart emoji]. She doesn’t deserve this some mfs got no self control wtf????” Another commented, “Like at some point we’re gonna have to offer required self control classes for fans across the globe.”
SZA has not spoken out about the incident, but fans in San Francisco— the tour‘s next stop—fear that she may not appear at future pop-ups.
Not Beauty issued a statement on today’s event, writing, “Due to space restrictions at Oracle Park, we’re unable to host the full activation and meet and greet. However, our Not Beauty merch booth will still be up and running at Marina Plaza, and fans will be able to purchase lip gloss and merch on-site. No ticket needed! Please note, SZA may or may not be stopping by.”
