SZA recently confessed that she technically owes Beyoncé a pretty substantial chunk of change — but that the Queen has yet to ask for a dime.
In a playful Instagram comment underneath a reel joking about the various writers credited on many of Bey’s songs, SZA wrote, “I literally owe her half my publishing off interpolation alone on SOS and she never pressed me lmao. A generous QUEEN.”
The title track in question is off of SZA’s 2022 LP, interpolating a part of Beyoncé’s iconic 2006 Dreamgirls hit “Listen.”

Bey and SZA have been in each other’s orbit for some time now, with the “Snooze” singer often speaking about her admiration for the music icon. Last year, after SZA’s major wins at the 2024 Grammys, Beyoncé showed her appreciation with a sweet post-Grammy gesture. SZA took to Instagram to share a photo of a beautiful bouquet she received from the “XO” singer, accompanied by a heartfelt note that read: “I’m so happy for you beautiful! Watching you grow and watching you win is an honor. Sending you a huge congrats talented queen. All my love and respect, B.”
SZA, clearly moved by the gift, expressed her thanks on her Instagram Stories, writing: “Thank you for seeing me before anyone else saw me. Thank you for making me feel valuable when I was the tiniest in the room. Thank you for shining your light on me and pouring into me with Goddess level kindness. May God continue to protect and bless you queen.”

Last year, the NJ-native caught herself fangirling over Bey with Lizzo during an Instagram Live session.
The “Special (Remix)” collaborators compared how many times they witnessed Bey perform with Lizzo revealing she’s seen her perform on her Renaissance tour three times, as SZA admitted that “The only time I seen Beyoncé perform was at Coachella, and it was f**king crazy.” Lizzo then casually admitted that she’s seen Bey perform a total of 11 times, including prior Destiny’s Child shows.
“Y’all making it seem like it’s ok to fight for these tickets now,” SZA joked about Bey’s heavily-sought after tour tickets. “I’m going to fight for them. It was like taboo trying to fight for them because everyone was trying to get them.” She quickly added, “I don’t give a f**k, I’m getting tickets. I’m a fan, I deserve. F**k y’all, I deserve.”
