Fabolous has earned a new platinum plaque but not for a new song. Last week (Nov. 27), the Recording Industry Association of America certified the Brooklyn rapper’s 2004 hit “Breathe” both gold and platinum after officially selling more than 1 million units.

From Fabolous’ third studio album Real Talk, the Just Blaze-produced song reached No. 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 2004. During an interview earlier this year with Carmelo Anthony and Mero on their 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, the Grammy-nominated rapper explained he made the song to escape his popularity from songs such as “Can’t Let You Go” and “Trade It All” with Jagged Edge.

“I’m going too far one way and it might get to a point where people don’t even know you even rap or put you in the category,” he explained, per Complex. “At the time radio was dominated by you had to make those songs to get on radio.”

“I go back a little bit. That’s where ‘Breathe’ came from — I’m going too far one way.”

Last month, the Ghetto Fabolous performer rang in his 47th birthday with a Ho Down-themed party in his hometown. Guests included Meek Mill, Jim Jones, Remy Ma, Lola Brooke, Dave East, Maino, Fivio Foreign, Connie Diiamond, Young M.A

“A wise cowboy told me they gon act like they don’t… But they really want the Low Down on the H*e-Down,” Fabolous wrote on social media giving fans and followers a look into the star-studded affair. The clip also highlighted the rapper’s gear, which included red boots, diamond-rimmed glasses, and a matching red hat.
