Tyla wins “World Artist of the Year” at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards

South African singer Tyla clinched the World Artist of the Year award at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, held on March 17 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This prestigious accolade underscores her significant impact on the global music scene.​

Leading up to the awards, Tyla received three nominations: World Artist of the Year, R&B Song of the Year, and Dance Song of the Year. Her nomination for World Artist of the Year is to highlight her role in bringing African music to a global audience. ​In this category, Tyla was nominated alongside prominent artists such as Bad Bunny, BTS, BLACKPINK, and Shakira. Securing the award amidst such esteemed company highlights her remarkable rise in the international music arena.​

Tyla’s self-titled debut album, released in 2024, debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album features her breakthrough single, “Water,” which peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100. ​

The 12th annual iHeartRadio Music Awards celebrated the year’s most-played artists and songs across iHeartRadio platforms, reflecting the dynamic evolution of the global music industry. ​Tyla’s achievement not only marks a personal milestone and signifies a moment of pride for African music on the world stage.​
